Two more species added to list of birds seen in our stretch of valley. Last year 2013 the Palmnut Vulture was seen frequently in our gardens and successfully bred. This week a Dwarf Bittern was recorded.

Here is the baby Didericks Cuckoo that was seen being fed by an Olive Sunbird. The parent Cuckoo would have laid their egg in the Sunbird's nest and then left all the incubation and hard work to the poor sunbird.
This photo shows a baby Natal Robin next to the parent on our bird table. The baby hasn't yet got the spectacular colours of the parent. Although there are lots of Robins in the garden, they don't often visit the feeding table, but this week they were seen eating bananas.
They are particularly fond of birdbaths.
This Cape Batis spends all day flinging himself at our windows.
We have created this blog to post photos and news of any bird and animal sightings in the valley. Hopefully this can be used as a "logbook" of when that first Violet backed starling arrives in summer, or when the woodpeckers eggs have hatched:-)
Please contact us if you have spotted something exciting! You can either "post a comment" on this page, or email your photo to me at tezz@intekom.co.za
